Butterball, Inc. has issued a recall for more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey. The ground turkey recall follows numerous complaints about pieces of plastic found inside the ground meat. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the ground turkey may contain blue plastic pieces.
Ground Turkey Recall
North Carolina-based Butterball, Inc. announced the recall on October 13, 2021. The FSIS announcement says that the products were produced in September 2021. Products included in the recall are:
2.5 lb trays of “Farm to Family Butterball all natural Ground Turkey
- Case code 50211271
- Sell or freeze by date: 10/18/2021
- Timestamps 2123 through 2302
3 lb trays of Kroger Ground Turkey
- Case code 50211271
- Sell or freeze by date: 10/17/2021
- Timestamps 2314 through 2351
All of the recalled products contain an establishment number “EST. P-7345”. The products were distributed nationwide to retailers.
What Consumers Should Know
As of this posting, there are no reports of injuries due to plastic found in ground turkey products. However, the FSIS has concerns that many consumers may have these products in their freezers. They urge consumers to review the information above and compare it to any Butterball or Kroger brand ground turkey in their freezers.
Consumers should not consume any products in this ground turkey recall. Instead, you can return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. If you come across plastic in these products (or have already), or have an injury due to the product, you should notify a healthcare provider immediately.
